maintaining your new floor in utah’s harsh weather
Welcome to Weatherstone Epoxy! Our premium, waterproof, UV-stable, industrial-grade coatings ensure durability and longevity. Transform your concrete flooring with our durable, low-maintenance, and customizable solutions.
Why Weatherstone?
Utah’s climate is tough on concrete. Hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters with lots of ice and salt can wreak havoc on your floors. That's why we named our company "Weatherstone." We’ve seen a growing trend in homeowners choosing epoxy not just for their garages but also for interiors. Its glossy look and low maintenance add sophistication and modernity to any room.
Tips for Maintaining Your Epoxy Floor
Protect Your Epoxy Floor from Damage
While epoxy is incredibly durable, it’s not indestructible. Here are a few simple ways to protect your floor:
New Floor Protection: Do not sweep or use any kind of abrasives on your floor within the first 10 days.
Furniture & Shelving: Place protective pads on heavy shelves or furniture, especially those with metal legs, to prevent scratching the protective top coat.
Motorbike Stand: If you own a motorcycle, place a soft pad under the stand to absorb the weight and protect the floor.
Extreme Heat: We don’t recommend activities that cause extreme heat or friction, such as welding, forging, kilning, or even burning out with your car tires.
Clean Your Epoxy Floor Regularly
Regular cleaning keeps your epoxy floor looking new:
Vacuum or Sweep First: Remove dust and dirt with a leaf blower, vacuum, or broom.
Scrub & Mop: Use a mild floor detergent like SimpleGreen and a microfiber or steam mop to get rid of dried surface stains and heavier dirt.
Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Don't use products with vinegar, citric acid, or soap-based cleaners. They can de-gloss the finish or leave a slippery haze.
Squeegee Out Standing Water: During the winter, or after a heavy rain, use a squeegee to remove bulk water sitting on your floor. This will help prevent water from getting underneath your floor as well as simplify later cleanup.
Prevent Tough Stains
Although polyaspartic floors are non-porous, they can still stain:
Immediate Cleanup: Wipe away motor oil transmission fluid, or other liquids immediately to prevent staining.
Tough Stains: For stubborn stains, use a cleaning product with water and ammonia. A soft scrub pad or deck brush can help, but avoid scrubbing too hard or leaving the product to sit on the surface for more than 10 minutes.
Deep Cleaning
Deep cleaning every six months to a year removes built-up dirt and dust. Professional cleaners will use a floor scrubber with a special pad to get out tough stains, and cleaning products that a specially made for polyaspartic coatings.
Long-Lasting Epoxy Floors
With proper care, your epoxy floor can stay shiny and new for years. If your floor loses its gloss, it might be time to call Weatherstone Epoxy for a fresh topcoat.
